Strike three and you’re out
How much would you pay to hear Grey’s Anatomy’s McDreamy utter “seriously?” Over and over? Wipe that smile off your face. It looks more like “it’s so over” in the words of Meredith Grey in season three’s finale. The writer’s strike which began on November 5 shows no end in sight. Big bad studios are essentially trying to force the writers’ hands by not budging over the issue of payment for Internet downloads and movie streaming.
With TV in Singapore soooo frickin slow to air new seasons and eppys of the biggest TV shoes, the writers’ strikes really doesn’t have an impact here: Ch 5 has only started to show Heroes season 1 a month ago! Save for those who love their BitTorrent to death, the rest of Singapore don’t give a shit. They are probably wasting their money by sms-ing to ensure lame-ass actors get into Star Awards. Uh-huh. Singapore’s version of the Emmys is airing this Sunday and the next. It’s the biggest, most glamorous TV event of the year. Nothing changes every year. It’s practically the same lame-ass people sharing the Top Ten spots since i was a teenager. Fann Wong was there since i was 14! Luckily, she’s still very youthful – thanks to bird’s nest or placenta.
It doesn’t cost much to ensure your favourite actor gets into top 10. Except you’re constantly guilt-tripped about the rising cost of living; about families who can’t make ends meet whenever you read the headlines of the papers; about the spiralling fuel prices; about how the $29.90 you just blew on a so-so mushroom risotto in an over-hyped restaurant in Dempsey Road could go to much better use.
This is getting depressing. What, with no new eppys of my fave TV shows, nothing to watch this Sunday night, and how expensive everything is becoming without us realising because we’re so damn lucky to have disposable income.
Maybe that’s why i stopped writing here. There’s so few things to feel passionately about. I sure hope those writers never feel this way. Not when there are gems like “if you don’t see why that’s [or this is] awesome then you need awesome lessons.” (The Office -US)
